Shoghakat TV company was founded in 1998 in Yerevan, Armenia, on the initiative of Catholicos Karekin II (at that time Archbishop Karekin Nersessian, Vicar General of the Araratian Pontifical Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church). The TV Company was founded in order to illustrate the activities of the dioceses and also to promote the preaching of Armenian Apostolic Church. Programs and films produced by Shoghakat TV could be attained by other TV Companies within Armenia, as well as through the Public TV of Armenia for the diasporan Armenians. After Abp. Karekin Nersessian was elected Catholicos of All Armenians in 1999, the Shoghakat TV Company was relocated to Holy Etchmiadzin and became a part of the Department of Information Services of the Mother See, its primary goal being the production of spiritual and cultural programs and films. The TV channel is being broadcast on air since November 2002.
